Our success in Afghanistan is paramount in our continuing fight against extremists who seek to kill innocent people. For this reason, I’m pleased that our president finally recognized the need for additional troops to support the forces that are already in Afghanistan. However, his decision to set a deadline for withdrawing troops is deeply concerning and ill-informed, and provides the Taliban insurgency the ability to simply wait out our departure.
