How does half a trillion dollars in new taxes sound?
That’s exactly what the current health care plan being debated in Congress will impose on hard-working American people, including a $149 billion tax increase on high-premium private health insurance plans and a fine on families without insurance of up to $2,250 per family. The plan also slashes Medicare by nearly $500 billion, forcing our seniors to bear the burden of this new federal health care entitlement.
That is not reform.
We must say no to the public option – no to government run healthcare. Instead, we need to say yes to the free market, which will encourage competition and provide affordability and accessibility.
That’s exactly what we did here in Florida to address the 4 million uninsured residents. Government was not the answer. Instead, we sought competition from the private sector. Health insurance companies responded to our goals and helped us pass a free market plan called Cover Florida that allows the individual to choose what health care benefits are best for them.
Cover Florida is affordable. Depending on health needs, individuals can choose basic or catastrophic coverage all for an average of $150 per month. This was not a complicated plan. We didn’t need a bunch of bureaucrats telling us how government could solve the problem. And we don’t need them now either.
Obviously, health care in this country is broken, and meaningful reform is needed. Effective reform would lower costs and provide greater access to quality. Putting a bureaucrat between you and your doctor like the Democrats in Washington want to do is simply wrong. A system like the one outlined in the current health care bill will only block access to proper treatments, while at the same time bankrupting our nation.
It is time for our Congressmen to look for real ways to reform our nation’s health care system, and stop believing that government is the answer to all of our problems.

“I support Governor Charlie Crist because he is a decent man with a solid record of working for and representing the people of the State of Florida. I have followed the Governor’s career since he was Secretary of Education and he has shown nothing but a record of integrity and conservative principles. When the toughest decisions have had to be made, he did not waiver but, rather, took the actions that would benefit and protect the people of this State.”

First, forcing health insurance upon any citizen is a blatent violation of the Constitution of the United States. Second, regardless which side of the isle one aligns, our Congressmen and Women have spent our hard earned dollars behind closed doors, making secret deals in order to gain support for this bill. If the Federal Government is going to medal in private enterprise, personal healthcare decisions and the way our Tax Dollars are spent, simply pass a Federal Law that will enable any individual or family to shop in a true open marketplace. The borders between states need to be made invisible when it comes to the purchasing of health insurance. There is no law that tells me I can’t buy a car in another state, so why should health insurance be different?
Further, since when do we pass legislation that has wording in it which prohibits any or all parts of it to be exempt from change by a future legislative body? While the United States Supreme Court would likely throw such a piece of legislation in the trash, this demonstrates that we have collectively placed the wrong people in the wrong jobs and they have violated their oath of office from the top down.
What we need to do with healthcare is continue to stimulate new and innovative techniques to cure diseases, heal injuries and improve the quality of life. What is going on now because of the threat of reducing Medicare payments to providers by 21%, is a reduction in the number of young people choosing medical care as a profession. Having been a care giver to an elderly family member, I have learned that simply reducing benefits is not the answer. I see advertisements every day for example that Medicare will pay for a power mobility device (scooter). If you don’t have Medicare, you can purchase this device for under $1,500.00. If you have Medicare, the provider bills $4,000.00. What is wrong with this picture? This is what needs to be fixed.
The level of corruption in our Federal Government has multiplied with every new administration. When the current President was campaigning for election, he talked about change. Well we got change…one step closer to dictatorship. He promised full visibility, but what we got is secret meetings, behind locked doors.
I support you in your bid for a Congressional Seat, and the only kind of change that is good is that in which each American can say he or she loves this country more. That means that your platform must be clear, strong and represent the pulse of your constituants. Don’t allow the competition an opportunity to push you asside with promises thay can’t keep. “Be all you can be” and be proud of it.
I served this country for 30 years. I am proud to be an American and proud to display the emblem of the United States Army and fly the Flag that represents freedom. Please do everything to protect what I served for and secure the future of this country and the ability of this country to defend itself against threat. Be cautious in choosing our allies. Stand up to the bullies who are backed with special interest funding.
I want healthcare reform, not just for myself, but for the millions of other Americans out their who either can’t afford it who have been refused coverage. My tax dollars go to things I don’t necessarily agree with or even know about day after day, year after year. I see this as something that can only bring up our nation as a whole. Since the old adage fits true “You can only run as fast as your slowest, and you can only jump as high as your weakest member.” And as a nation united this stands true, that if we can make our sick healthy we can be the strongest nation we can be.
