Charlie Crist on Afghanistan

Governor Crist is pleased the Obama Administration has recognized the need to increase American troop levels fighting in Afghanistan. The success of the United States military in Afghanistan is paramount in our continuing fight in the war on terror and against extremists who seek to kill innocent people.

September 11, 2001, proved that America must seek out and destroy terrorist networks wherever they exist. Governor Crist believes that providing General McCrystal with additional troops is critical to the overall success of the mission. Governor Crist; however, is concerned with the president’s decision to set a deadline for withdrawing troops in July 2011. Announcing a troop withdrawal plan before additional troops are on the ground will provide the Taliban insurgency the ability to simply wait it out.

Governor Crist believes the president should use conditions on the ground as benchmarks for success rather than arbitrary timelines.
