“I support Charlie Crist because there if there is anything that the 2008 presidential election taught me, it’s that Americans should not vote for a candidate based only on rhetoric. There needs to be substance and experience to support it, and that’s what Charlie Crist provides for Floridians.”

Charlie Crist on Public Safety
Charlie Crist is a proven crime fighter. He believes in the words of the U.S. Constitution that states government’s first priority is to provide “domestic tranquility.”
Throughout his public career, Charlie Crist has supported common sense measures to crack down on criminals who prey on Florida’s families. As Florida’s next U.S. Senator, Charlie Crist will take his crime fighting record to Washington and will stand strong against efforts to weaken criminal sentencing laws.
As a member of the United States Senate, Charlie Crist will build on his record as a crime fighter. Floridians will have a senator who understands firsthand the need to keep the public safe and secure. As Governor, Charlie Crist has proven this commitment. In his first legislative session as governor, Charlie Crist fought for passage of the Anti-Murder Act. This legislation ensures violent felony offenders who violate probation return to jail. Since becoming law, nearly 100 violent probation violators have been locked back up.
Due to these important policies and laws, crime is down in Florida. These policies and laws are complemented by the dedication and commitment of Florida’s law enforcement community. Charlie Crist will fight for law enforcement/first responders in the U.S. Senate. Governor Crist is proud to have the endorsement of the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Charlie Crist will fight each day in the U.S. Senate to protect America’s children from predators. In June 2009, under the leadership of Governor Crist, Florida law enforcement arrested 77 individuals on charges ranging from possession of child pornography to sexual battery during a 10-week effort to crack down on child pornography. This effort was hailed nationally and was a featured segment on America’s Most Wanted.
As Florida’s first ever Republican Attorney General, Charlie Crist created the state’s first Child Predator/Cyber Crime unit in August 2005. This important decision was a direct result to several tragic murders of young children in Florida.
During his time in the Florida Senate, Charlie Crist sponsored legislation that brought chain gangs back to Florida. This led Governor Crist to receive the nickname, “Chain Gang Charlie.” Additionally, Governor Crist sponsored landmark legislation called S.T.O.P., Stop Turning Out Prisoners Act, requiring criminals to serve at least 85 percent of their sentences. This legislation was signed into law and has provided relief to many victims and their families.
